The petrol tank robotic filler to replace self filling on forecourts...
Motorists, like me, who nostalgically pine for those days of yore, sitting tight in your cars while forecourt attendants braved the wind and rain to fill our petrol tanks, may well see a return of those great old days - thanks to a Dutch invented robot. Dutch inventors have reportedly unveiled a $NZ142,000 car refuelling robot that will be the first of its kind. It will work by registering the car on arrival at the service station and matching it to a database of fuel cap sizes and fuel types. A robotic arm fitted with multiple sensors will extend from a regular petrol pump, will carefullyn open the car's flap, unscrew the cap, pick up the fuel nozzle and direct it towards the tank opening, much like a humanarm would, and as efficiently. The developer and petrol station operator, Nico van Staveren said he saw a robotic milking arm on a farm, and thought that if a robot could milk a cow, why not fill a car's petrol tank? In his opinion drivers didn't need to get their hands dirty or smell of petrol again. He hopes to introduce what he has named the "Tankpit-stop" robot into a handful of dutch service stations by the end of the year. Next...the world!
