Recycled Chinese condoms have new uses...
Used condoms are being recycled in China - into hairbands that have apparently proved popular. The biggest danger is that they could actually spread sexually transmitted diseases, something they are designed to prevent. "These cheap and colourful rubber bands and hair ties are selling well, but also threatening the lives of local people," the China Daily newspaper commented. "Despite being recycled, the hair bands could still contain bacteria and viruses, such as aids, genital warts and other STI's, if they hold the rubber bands and strings in their mouths while weaving their hair into plaits or buns," a local dermatologist was quoted. A bag of 10 recycled bands is allegedly cheaper to buy than others on the market. The price of Chinese capitalism and market economics? But with inherent dangers.
