A Christchurch, New Zealand, teenager, Bonny McIntyre, was sentenced to life in prison for killing her mother with an axe A Christchurch teenager who attacked and killed her mother with an axe while she was watching Coronation Street has been sentenced to the mandatory life in prison. Bonny McIntyre was 16-years-old last November, when she went to her mother Moera McIntyre's house and struck the woman a dozen times about the head and neck with an axe. At the time her 15-year-old brother was in a nearby room. He did not hear the attack but later found his mother dead in a pool of blood. As she was sentenced this morning, family members gave victim impact statements and spoke directly to McIntyre saying, "look at what you have done to us. Do you know what you have done to our family". Several times she responded saying "I don't know". Name suppression was lifted at the request of the family. Another sad case of teenage matricide.
