Hopes for reduction in paracetamol overdoses...
By Peter Petterson of huttriver, kiwi riverman and other blogs
Scottish scientists have reportedly made a very important discovery which they hope could reduce liver damage and deaths caused by paracetamol overdoses. They discovered that overdose patints with the greatest liver damage have higher levels of aprotein known ascyclophilin Ain their urine. The University of Edinborough research team claim treatments to block the harmful effects of this protein may aid these patients. Approximately 200 people a year in the United Kingdom die after paracetamol overdoses there. And 20 people a year undergo liver transplants possibly as a consequence.
